The length that fills the gap where a minute is too short and two minutes too long.

Ninety seconds is the default rest between strength sets. Shorter and the next set collapses; longer and the session loses density. The line sits about here. The catch is that rest is exactly when people forget to time anything.
It is also the length behind the neuroscientist Jill Bolte Taylor's ninety-second rule: the physiological surge of an emotion runs its course in roughly ninety seconds, and what remains after that is the story you keep telling yourself. Hence the advice to count ninety seconds before answering while angry.
Neither situation leaves you watching a clock. The PiP window floats above your other windows, so the remaining time is one glance away.
