About this timer

One of the few reliable answers to procrastination is work for fifteen minutes, then stop. It is short enough to be hard to refuse, and once you have started you usually keep going. The point is not finishing; it is lowering the cost of beginning.

So a fifteen-minute timer is less a device for ending something than permission to start it. When it rings you decide whether to continue. Stopping is not a failure — it was the deal you made going in.

Standups, clearing one room, working through a backlog of email all sit at this length too. On days when twenty-five feels like too much, this beats the 25 minute timer.
