When the PiP timer will not work
Picture-in-Picture and sound both depend on browser and operating system permissions. Working down this list from the top resolves most cases.
01
Nothing happens when I press the PiP button
- Check that you pressed the button yourself.
Browsers block a PiP window from opening without a direct user action.
- Try again in an up-to-date Chrome or Edge.
Interactive Document Picture-in-Picture is not supported in every browser.
- Check that the address is HTTPS.
Features like PiP and the service worker are only reliable on
https://piptim.com. - Turn browser extensions off briefly.
Ad blockers, popup blockers and privacy extensions sometimes prevent a new PiP window from being created.
02
I cannot hear the completion sound
- Check the PipTim settingOpen the gear icon and confirm that "Completion sound" is switched on.
- Check the site permissionIn the site settings next to the address bar, make sure sound and notifications are not blocked.
- Check the device volumeLook at tab mute, the operating system's do-not-disturb mode, and the media volume.
- Check background restrictionsMobile battery savers and browser memory-saving features can delay anything running in the background.
03
The time stopped, or disappeared after I closed the tab
While running, PipTim recalculates the remaining time from the scheduled end time, so it reflects real elapsed time even if you look at another tab or the screen refreshes slowly. Fully closing the browser or the tab, however, ends the environment the timer runs in.
